Karyol Marlin Bates
Karyol Marlin Bates, age 84 of Anthony, went to sleep peacefully, passing away on Tuesday, April 14 at Patterson Health Center, being reunited with her husband. Karyol was born September 20, 1935 in Watertown, South Dakota to parents, John Olia and Alice (Christensen) Johnson, they preceded her in death.
Karyol was a twin to brother Kenneth, growing up with one other brother and two sisters. She had a rough life, and grew up during the great depression in Wichita, Kansas. She later met the love of her life, who was stationed in Wichita. He was in the army and were married in 1958.
She had trouble carrying a child full term. Until one day in 1970, she became pregnant with her daughter Alice Lucille Scott. Alice was born December 29, 1971. She so enjoyed her miracle baby Alice. When Alice was 7, her father died from a freak accident. They had lived in Garden City, Missouri.
After Alice graduated high school, she then married Jimmy Scott Karyol, and moved to Blairstown, Missouri to be closer to her grand children, Jimmy, Alicia, and Amber Scott. She always looked forward to being with her grandchildren and loved them so much.
Her granddaughter, Alicia joined the army, Jimmy moved to Texas, and Amber moved to Anthony. Karyol moved to Anthony later in life and was cared for by her granddaughter Amber.
Karyol was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Alice and husband Jimmy of Blairstown, Missouri; her two granddaughters, Alicia Scott of Ft. Riley, Kansas and Amber Scott of Anthony; her grandson, Jimmy Max and wife, Billie Jean Scott of Huffman, Texas; her two great grandsons, Jonathan Norris and Gregory Turner, both of Anthony; nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Private family memorial service was held Friday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eldringhoff Funeral Home in Anthony.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Karyol Bates Memorial Fund, in care of the Eldringhoff Funeral Home, 115 S. Bluff Avenue, Anthony, Kansas 67003.
The Bates family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to the Eldringhoff Funeral Home of Anthony, Kansas.
