In loving memory
Eddie William Wilkinson
March 27, 1938 ~ May 13, 2021
Eddie W. Wilkinson
Edward “Eddie” William Wilkinson, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2021 at the age of 83. He was born in Leroy, KS on March 27, 1938, to Irvie and Goldie (Myers) Wilkinson. Eddie grew up in Sedalia, Missouri and loved working at the State Fair as a young man. He graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in May of 1956. Right after, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to pursue his career as an electrician on Sept. 28, 1956. He began his journey on the aircraft carrier USS Forrest Sherman in Newport, Rhode Island. Ed got to travel around the world and his favorite stop was in Rome. He received an Honorary Discharge on Sept. 27, 1962. It was only a few months later that he met the love of his life, Carol Jo Irvin, in Anthony, KS.
Eddie surprised Carol by purchasing their first home in Anthony and that’s where they raised their family over 50 plus years. He was married to Carol on Feb. 24, 1963. They celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary together at the Anthony Community Care Center this year.
He started working for the City of Anthony the next day and moved his way up to electrical foreman. He served 36 plus years. With a combined years of service with him and his son, Steve, they put in over 76 years of electrical service for the City of Anthony which is unheard of.
He is survived by his wife Carol, and three children Steve Wilkinson from Anthony, KS, Debbie Wilkinson, daughter-in-law Deanna Lincoln from Phoenix, AZ and Connie Wilkinson from Denver, CO. He has been blessed by four wonderful grandchildren, Jordan (Wilkinson) Potts and her husband Justin Potts, Janna Wilkinson, Kadie McNamara and Brigitte McNamara. His two great grandchildren Easton and Drake Potts were a sparkle in his eye. One of his special times was watching Easton play baseball and that’s when he said, “That boy is going to make the big league some day! “ Little did we know that the day he passed, Easton had a double header and hit a grand slam and a home run. His grandpa was definitely at the game and will always be in the stands cheering us all on!
Eddie is preceded in death by both parents, his three older sisters, Ruth Hargrove, Katherine Michael and Erymal Frick. He grew up with his niece and nephews which he held very close to his heart. Wes Hargrove and Sharon Johnston (Michael) reside in Texas and still call him their favorite Uncle Eddie.
He loved his family more than anything. If you didn’t see him driving the red city truck in town, you saw him leaving town to go to a ball game. He was always involved with his children’s activities and athletic events. He coached little league and attended as many games as he could. Holidays were always a very special time for him, as well. He loved decorating for Christmas and Halloween especially. Between all of his decorations, everyone always made a special trip to drive by the house to enjoy the talking toys and lights. The clubhouse he built for his children was a special hang out for all of the town’s kids to visit. The tradition continued with him helping Steve build one for his grandkids Jordan and Janna. In retirement, he enjoyed going to garage sales, shopping at Wal-Mart, family holidays and watching sports. His favorite was always the KU basketball and KC Chiefs games. It was a highlight watching the Chiefs win the Super Bowl! Eddie was full of life and loved to tease and laugh ‘til the end.
