C. W. “Bill” Peterson

September 13, 1929    ~    January 14, 2021

 

C. W.“Bill” Peterson of Freeport, KS, retired missile scientist passed away on January 14, 2021.  Bill was born the oldest of three children on September 13, 1929, to Alfred D. and Nora Casemino Peterson of Durango, CO.  After completing high school, Bill attended junior college and then Colorado State University where he graduated with a BS degree in Physics in 1953.

After graduation, Bill was drafted to the U.S. Army, assigned to White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), NM and was honorably discharged in 1955.  Bill continued working at WSMR where he married and started a family.  He worked there until 1979 and retired as a Branch Chief over testing and evaluation of several national missile programs.  In the late 70’s Bill remarried and after retirement they traveled extensively and eventually settled in Freeport in 1985.

Bill’s many and varied experiences led him to be a valuable resource for his friends and neighbors.  His mind was packed with knowledge, in many different avenues, that he gladly shared. 

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his brother John, and daughter Julie.  He is survived by his wife, Carol, son Doug (Kimlee) Peterson, Fountain Hills, AZ;  daughter Dr. Hope VonBorkenhagen (Mike) Wright of Heath, TX; Grandchildren Thomas (Sarah) Peterson and Emma and Keaton Chandler. Great-grand children Chase, Zoey and Amelia Peterson; sister Carol (Jim) Cadez, Grand Junction, CO; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Memorials in memory of Bill may be made to the Freeport Presbyterian Church in care of Eldringhoff Funeral Home, 115 S Bluff, Anthony, KS.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The Peterson family has entrusted the care of Bill to the Eldringhoff Funeral Home of Anthony, Kansas.
