Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Benjamin (Benny) Franklin McCann

Benny was born on January 17th, 1948 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Benjamin and Wanda (Orr) McCann. He passed away April 8th, 2020 in Anthony, Ks.

The family moved from Oregon to Wichita, Ks where Benny attended Minneha Grade School through the 7th grade. In 1962 the family moved from Wichita to Harper, Ks. When Benny started school in Harper, he met Margaret Seaman. They had eyes for each other right away. Benny and Margaret graduated from Harper High School in 1966. Benny then attended Emporia State University for two years.

Benny and Margaret were married May 27th, 1967. Benny and Margaret welcomed three sons, Scott, Brad, and Marc. Later Benny’s cousin Bill Hatcher would join the family and become the fourth son. Benny and Margaret dated for 6 years and were married for 52.

When the boys were young Benny coached their baseball teams. He was their most encouraging fan and was ready to help improve their skills no matter what sport they were playing at the time. He was an avid outdoorsman, but his true passion was fishing. It rarely took much discussion to get him to the lake.

Benny and Margaret moved back to Harper from Emporia in 1970 to go into business with his dad distributing milk. The McCann Dairy distributed dairy products from Cimarron to Winfield and Kingman south to the state line. In 1971 the couple moved to Winfield so Benny could manage a branch of the dairy business from there.

In 1973 Benny and Margaret bought the Drive In Market in Anthony, Ks. They ran the grocery store until 1990. After they closed the grocery store Benny started a career in the aircraft industry in Wichita. He worked at Globe Engineering and later spent nearly 20 years at Cessna Aircraft before retiring in 2010.

Benny was a family man in every sense of the word. Whether it was the boys or the grandkids in a sporting event, robot competition, working on a project, or heading to the outdoors Benny was ready to drop everything and go.

Benny will be deeply missed by his wife Margaret of the home, son Scott of Greensburg, Ks; son Brad and his wife Heather of Ashland, Ks; son Marc and his wife Janna of Lawrence, Ks and grandchildren Mercedes McCann, Aspen McCann Perry and husband Kyle, Corey McCann, River McCann, Isabelle McCann, and Eden Whitson and husband Steve, and two great grandchildren Anini Whitson and Finley Perry.
